Making a universal base...

...did a little more work on this. This is very much an experiment and it's a bit 'rough and ready' but I'm pleased how it's progressing for a first time attempt at a large base. Might don another with a building as a backdrop...

  1. That's very nice work. Is the rubble shavings of styrofoam?

I'm wondering if it might be better to do a larger base, so that the edges can be cropped in photographs?

  2. Thanks guys - the rubble is mostly Das clay, the 'dried' bits of the interior filler I used to coat the styrofoam base and grit of various sixes. The road section is an Almera plastic moulding cut in half and mounted to foamboard which in turn is mounted on styrofoam blocks. This is an experiment TP so I just made it large enought to photograph vehicles against and then I do crop the edges in the photos. I will definitely do another with a building at the rear to form a backdrop.

  3. This is really cool. Do you have a youtube channel or any how-to vids for this type of thing or, more importantly your painting techniques?
